CNC Machining & Finishing Manufacturer in Pune – Precision Post-Casting Processing for Aluminium Components

Die casting produces a near-net-shape component with excellent dimensional characteristics. But "near-net-shape" is not always close enough. When a component needs to interface with a precision bearing, seal against a machined mating face, or accept a threaded fastener in a precisely located boss, the casting dimension is a starting point—not a finished state.

Plasma Aluminium Diecasting operates an in-house CNC machining and finishing capability at our Pune facility, handling all post-cast precision processing for our die cast components. This covers turning, milling, drilling, boring, tapping and precision surface finishing—applied to HPDC, GDC and LPDC components before they are packed and dispatched to the client.

By keeping machining in-house, we maintain complete quality control across the full component journey and eliminate the timeline and quality risks that arise when machining is outsourced.

Our CNC Machining Capabilities

CNC Turning

We turn cylindrical and axi-symmetric features on aluminium die cast components, achieving bore diameters, outer diameters and shoulder lengths to tight tolerances. Turning is the primary operation for bearing seats, sealing diameters and stepped-shaft profiles on pump and motor housings.

CNC Milling

Multi-axis milling handles complex planar and contoured surfaces, pocket machining, face milling for flatness and profile milling for intricate external forms. We use milling routinely to achieve the flatness and surface roughness requirements on gasket and mating surfaces.

Drilling, Reaming & Boring

Drilled holes, reamed precision holes and bored internal diameters are produced to drawing-specified tolerances. Close-tolerance bores for bearing and bushing locations, precision-drilled fluid passages in hydraulic components.

Thread Cutting & Tapping

We cut internal and external threads using both tapping and thread milling. For aluminium die cast housings that require metric, UNC, UNF, or BSP threads, we provide consistent thread form and pitch throughout production.

Surface Finishing

Post-machining deburring and edge treatment are applied to all components before inspection. Where drawing-specified surface roughness (Ra) values are required, we achieve and verify these using appropriate cutting parameters.

Why In-House CNC Machining Matters for Die Cast Component Quality

When machining is outsourced to a third party, several things happen:

  • Information about the casting's dimensional condition is not communicated back to the foundry in a timely way
  • Responsibility for the final machined component is divided between two vendors, making it harder to identify the source of a non-conformance
  • Lead time for the complete component extends by the transit and queue time between the foundry and the machining shop
  • Quality variation between the casting and machining stages can accumulate

By keeping machining in-house at Plasma, we close these loops. Our casting and machining teams share process data, inspect at each stage and jointly own the dimensional quality of the final component.

Tolerances We Routinely Achieve

Our CNC machining capability is equipped to achieve the tolerance classes required by automotive, aerospace and precision industrial applications:

  • Bore diameters: IT6 to IT7 tolerance class as standard; tighter on request
  • Linear dimensions: ±0.05 mm achievable on features accessible to our CNC fixtures
  • Flatness: 0.05 mm over 200 mm span for gasket and mating surfaces
  • Surface roughness: Ra 0.8 to Ra 3.2 on machined faces depending on specification
  • Thread class: 6H internal threads as standard for metric applications

Materials We Machine

Our CNC machining operations are optimised for aluminium alloys used in die casting:

  • ADC12 / LM24: Good machinability with standard HSS and carbide tooling
  • A380: Similar machinability to ADC12; widely machined for electrical and automotive enclosures
  • LM25 / A356 (T6): Slightly harder after heat treatment; we use appropriate tooling and cutting parameters for post-T6 machining
  • LM6: Excellent machinability; used frequently in pump and fluid system housings

Integration with Our Die Casting and Finishing Services

CNC machining at Plasma is fully integrated with our casting and finishing operations:

  • Post-HPDC machining: Bearing seats, gasket surfaces, bolt-circle drilling and thread cutting
  • Post-GDC machining: Critical sealing faces, bore finishing and datum surface machining
  • Post-LPDC machining: Hub bore machining, face turning and wheel-mounting hole drilling
  • Pre-coating preparation: Final machining before powder coating to maintain precise dimensions

CNC Machining Services in Pune, Chakan & Moshi

Our CNC machining and finishing services are available to manufacturers across Pune, Chakan MIDC, Moshi MIDC and Chimbli—either as part of our complete die casting and finishing package, or as standalone machining services for die cast components produced elsewhere. If you are looking for precision CNC machining of aluminium die cast components in Pune, our team is ready to review your drawings and provide a quotation.

Frequently Asked Questions (FAQs)

Yes. We offer CNC machining and finishing as a standalone service for aluminium die cast components produced by other foundries. If you have casting sources but need in-house precision machining capability, our Pune facility can handle post-casting processing to your drawing specifications.

We routinely achieve bore diameter tolerances within IT6 to IT7 class, linear dimensional tolerances of ±0.05 mm, flatness of 0.05 mm over 200 mm and surface roughness values from Ra 0.8 to Ra 3.2, depending on the feature and application. Tighter tolerances are discussed and confirmed during the design review stage.

Machining can be included as part of a complete component package or quoted separately, depending on client preference. We offer full component supply—from tooling through casting, machining and coating—or we can quote casting-only, with machining as an add-on. Please specify your requirements in the RFQ.

Yes. We machine LM25 and A356 components after T6 heat treatment, using appropriate tooling and cutting parameters for the higher-hardness T6 condition. Post-T6 machining is standard for structural automotive and aerospace LPDC and GDC components.

Machining turnaround depends on component complexity and batch size. For standard automotive and industrial components, machining is typically completed within 3 to 7 working days of receiving castings. Complex multi-operation components may require longer. We provide firm turnaround commitments at the quotation stage.
